About Untu Capital

About Untu Capital

Founded in 2009 as a micro-finance institution, Untu Capital was born out of a vision to close the financing gap faced by micro-enterprises and SMEs in Zimbabwe.

Untu Capital has grown from a trusted microfinance partner to a national enabler of small business resilience and growth, helping entrepreneurs access working capital, invest in productive assets, and sustain momentum in changing economic cycles.

Untu Capital has its roots in the Ubuntu value system, one of belonging to the community, of oneness and of progress together as a single unit. In this setup, one’s wellbeing is connected to the other’s wellbeing and the phrase “we are because you are” defines how we do business.

As we continue to expand our footprint, we remain anchored in integrity, respect, excellence, innovation and responsiveness so we can keep delivering tailor-made, home-grown financial solutions that help communities prosper.

Our Leadership

Untu Capital is led by experienced professionals who have steered the institution through multiple economic cycles while preserving a reputation for reliability, discipline and customer-centred lending. At every stage, the focus remains consistent: ensuring Untu Capital remains stable, relevant and trusted by the communities it serves.

Our leadership strength lies not in any single individual, but in a collective of seasoned experts who combine strategic clarity, governance discipline and deep local market insight. Together, they guide Untu Capital to lend responsibly while enabling growth where it matters most.

Untu Capital annual report presentation

Investors, Funders & Partners
Why Partner With Us?

If you’re an investor, development partner or funder looking for impact + return, Untu Capital offers a compelling proposition:

Our strategy combines prudent risk management, local market fluency and disciplined execution so partner capital translates into measurable business outcomes, stronger repayment performance and wider financial inclusion.

• Established history & demonstrated capability: operating since 2009, with a proven lending portfolio and experience managing SME finance in Zimbabwe.

• Clear market demand + underserved segment: SMEs and micro-enterprises in Zimbabwe represent a large, underserved base with persistent demand for flexible, responsive financing, especially for working capital and asset financing.

• Scalable model with room for growth: as we grow our book, expand branches or digital channels (USSD, mobile, etc.), there is potential for increased outreach and impact. (Untu already offers digital platforms: mobile app, USSD and WhatsApp-based services)

• Social impact & financial inclusion: by enabling SMEs to grow, we contribute to employment, economic development, community empowerment, outcomes that increasingly appeal to impact investors or socially-minded funders.

• Strong governance and accountability: our leadership, credit controls and portfolio monitoring systems are built to support transparent reporting, disciplined risk decisioning and confidence for local and international funding partners.

• Execution capacity across channels: with branch presence and active digital touchpoints, we can originate, disburse and service clients efficiently while maintaining responsive support for entrepreneurs in diverse sectors.

• Diversified service offering reduces risk: with multiple loan products (working capital, asset finance, short-term), our exposure is spread across customer needs and business cycles, so we’re not dependent on a single line of business. This diversification strengthens portfolio resilience, supports steadier repayment performance and allows us to sustain growth even when individual sectors experience pressure.
